0:14

[Music] hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of the newbie and the

0:19

doobie my name is timmy i am the newbie mary jane i am the dewey today on the

0:24

spot we have with us todd wayne from free-minded the intersection of high

0:30

fashion and heightened experiences todd i love that description um thank you so

0:36

much for joining us on the show today pleasure thank you for having me so tell us tell us a little bit like has has

0:44

this intersection been always a part of your life like is as growing up were you the kid that would that wanted was the

0:51

high fashion kid and everything was elevated in terms of its quality and style you know i've been using cannabis

0:58

since i've been a little child okay and i've now been a fashion

1:03

recruiter owning a fashion agency on 34th street and 7th avenue for the last 34 years

1:10

15 years find that i'm in manufacturing of apparel with a family-run business

1:17

i've had the pleasures in my life career to work with some of the finest

1:22

pharmacists on the planet on all continents

1:28

and really placing the designers and the atelier rooms and all nothing

1:35

and everything that fashion needs on 7th avenue in new york

1:40

i've filled these jobs for the last 34 years

1:45

and just like donut commercial i got to make a donut well

1:51

after doing this job for as many years as i have i find myself in that revolving door

1:56

every day saying i gotta make a donut i needed to change in my life

2:03

seven years ago i went skiing in colorado and i walked into a dispensary

2:09

and literally my mind got away i just could not believe i could walk into a

2:15

building that looks like neiman marcus it's displayed as beautiful beautifully

2:22

as they would display their product and i could walk into the store and buy

2:27

cannabis and not just walk in and buy it i can now take it and roll a joint and smoke

2:33

it outside that you know as a young child

2:39

you know i'm buying the stuff in the back seat of you know the parking lots

2:44

and cars hiding it from the top and stashing underneath my floorboards you

2:50

know sitting in dark alleys in the room smoking the stuff so i didn't get busted

2:55

and my friends have gotten arrested as young kids on the product so to have this metamorphosis

3:02

and see that experience was just eye-opening it was just something that

3:07

you know i never thought would have happened and in the last seven years you now start seeing all the other states

3:14

legalizing it new yorkers just to prove that new jersey's approved it

3:19

so it's it's really unbelievable to see this in my lifetime with that said i i needed to make a

3:26

change and um i was working with some of the best leather factories and production teams

3:33

on the planet i'm also a star smoker so i walked into matt sherman on 42nd

3:40

street and asked a really nice sales person what do they have for cannabis and they said absolutely nothing i said

3:47

like this has nothing for cannabis um i ended up

3:53

flying out to colorado into la for a three four day weekend and i hit between 50 and 60 dispensaries

4:01

and a couple of major retailers like max fields and fred siegel

4:07

and just kept on asking you know the backtenders and the sales managers what do you have and

4:15

nobody had anything maybe a couple marble types and just little head-end products

4:20

so i worked with some technical design teams looking something on trainers try to get some inspiration going with some

4:26

design concepts and once i did that i realized i was onto

4:32

something and what i recognize is that there's nobody out there right now

4:40

that is at the level that i'm sitting at i i wanted to take cannabis and bring it

4:47

to a level that was totally respected and create a new

4:53

um product line called cannabis couture lifestyle accessories

4:58

i want to be the omiz of of cannabis i want to be at the workmanship at the taste level

5:06

at the design the functionality i want this product to be field tested

5:13

i want the best artisans in the world to tone my product and tell me where my mistakes are

5:19

i want people to critique me to a point that excites me to the point of no return

5:25

so my credentials is that i have friends in some of the highest design studios in the world

5:31

and i bring them into my office and say i just created this now i'm a temple development 5

5:37

ten different samples i'll make in one product and i'll go to my first sample i'll field

5:44

test it after i feel tested i'll get a comment from the person that's working with my product

5:50

and then i'll make a sample and then bring a designer or a technician and say i don't like the way you did this you

5:56

need to fold it this way you need to you know cut it this way you've got to skive it that way so they're critiquing the

6:03

product and making it better and elevating it so i've done that for the last five years

6:09

just told me my product making sure that it's functional it's beautiful artwork

6:15

it's creative and then on the other side of it is that i'm a user of the product the mindset so

6:22

now i start worrying about my my consumer

6:27

is going to purchase my product and then next thing you know they're going to start losing top you know parts you know

6:33

they're gonna break things they're gonna stain things you know so everything in my product

6:40

has that concept behind it that i need to protect my consumer from themselves

6:45

really that don't break it or destroy it or get callous with the object

6:51

it's interesting sorry i sort of cut you off it's interesting you talk about durability because as you were talking about testing it in the market i'm like

6:58

i am the person that you want to test your ability with i i told my friend um shadow riser uh i

7:06

will break your product and they're like there's no way you can break this product two weeks

7:11

i broke the product like so they improved on on the durability so it's nice to see the durability is i really

7:18

practically try my best listen everything is breakable if you want to abuse it you know oh i didn't i didn't

7:24

try to break it you know i this is luxury so if you if

7:30

you watch people that buy luxury i'm not walking into a head shop and

7:35

buying a plastic joint tube and throwing it around all right now i have joined two it's a 300 bucks

7:41

you know so you know you look at a person that goes into a chloe a chanel gucci prada and

7:50

they dropped three five ten thousand dollars on a bag all over the floor and using it as mom

7:57

right yeah you know yeah they're always very protective of it you know so the more money people spend on luxury

8:04

the more they they're prideful of it you know they don't want to have it completely dirty but you know a woman

8:10

that buys an hermes bag you know for ten thousand dollars it's not getting stoned

8:15

you know in the clubs and dropping your back on table and [ __ ] spills on it

8:20

you know but my products that will happen so i i try to protect it as best as i can just

8:27

knowing that things like that could happen yeah so i noticed also todd mentioned that

8:33

you've been consuming since you were a child and smoking and like buying it in back seats of cars

8:39

and that was because of the legality of it um so was there like was it purely

8:44

recreational when you started or like is that why you consume or is it a medical

8:50

oh it was only recreational and it was a good way to you know bring friends together

8:56

you know we would go out and buy a quarter pound and then divide it up and then after we divided it up you know

9:01

everybody would go out and sell their share they're out and then they had to come back with 50 bucks and then when we had 200 dollars

9:08

more we went out and got another quarter pound you know that's awesome he was in business even when he was younger

9:15

you know come up with 200 bucks 50 bucks an ounce and then you know you roll your joints

9:21

you know distribute what you need to distribute and get rid of it and get your 50 bucks back bring it back to the pool and then we'll

9:27

go out and buy some more there was a way that we could get our head on you know it's a way that we could you know

9:34

embrace our friendships together you know and we were always getting a good head on

9:39

you you weren't just a consumer you i mean you were like you were in the industry already at that point like

9:45

you're already running a business i wasn't in it for profitability you know i was more entrepreneurished than

9:51

most of my friends so i always had the means to find them and create you know

9:58

but what i would end up doing is is fronting the the funds up

10:03

and then giving it to my high school buddies and then you know it's funny i'd have like the names on cards and you know

10:10

every every day or so they'd bring me back ten dollars after they sold you know

10:16

you get maybe 10 joints out of an ounce you know so you know they would dig it up they would smoke five and sell five

10:23

you know get ten bucks a joint and we would just we would just run our

10:28

our high school years you know doing that which was smoking pot in the 70s

10:34

yeah yeah i was foolishly paying somebody else i was probably buying off your buddies dude like i'm like paying

10:40

your buddy to smoke and you know yeah your plan was

10:53

yeah you know completely different than today i live and work in manhattan and i've been a new yorker my whole life and

10:59

now you know the last two years that i literally walk from my apartment to my office and i smell cannabis every day

11:07

and not back as a kid you wouldn't ever smell it ever yeah that world to me when i hear these

11:12

when i when i when we do these interviews and when do i see mj um just communicating with their friends in the

11:18

industry because i grew up i grew up in the church i was i was the golden child you know like like like weed was was up

11:24

there with you know heroin cocaine

11:30

well to be fair uh quite honestly and i've tried to share this very openly is

11:36

that um just by doing this podcast just by taking a positive stance

11:44

not even by being a regular consumer i have received emails and text messages

11:49

so i perform as a as a clean comedian as well and a lot of my gigs were within

11:54

the church uh the church world because that's where my my roots were so that's where my connections were when i started

12:00

doing comedy and i have i have received emails and texts basically saying are

12:05

you going to continue to do this once kovid's over i'm sorry but we're not going to be able to book you for future events like just

12:13

by being here it is it is not just seen as rebellion like i've pretty much given

12:18

my soul over which is which is really sad it shows you how deep the stigma is yeah it's a huge stigma which is another

12:24

reason why i'm loving you know in my business it took me almost probably a year and a

12:29

half to weed out my design teams and my production teams

12:34

at the beginning was glorifying the

12:40

designer companies in new york like if a major designer in the world let's say

12:45

ralph lauren called me up and said he needed another accessory designer i would find that designer for them or

12:53

their technician and what i've noticed is that cannabis is is a product that you know you're a

12:59

circle or you're a square and the two never come together all right

13:06

so i hired a um a designer and he didn't smoke canvas

13:12

and i was very leery about bringing him on staff and i told him that you're not a

13:18

consumer and and that's the problem that i have with you and he made a

13:24

comment to me and he goes you know jews wrote christmas songs

13:31

all right but what he didn't realize after i turned it is that

13:36

the jews wrote the songs but the gaium was sitting in the back and it really wasn't snow it was cocaine and they were

13:42

sniffing and sniffing it at night they were partying right he couldn't put

13:49

the circle in the peg together he would design things that were not functional that the products didn't fit in it

13:56

it was really beautiful and the design concept was there but once you start putting the functions into the product

14:04

you start you went from like a a a little purse to a suitcase you know yeah

14:09

and the whole stack was completely gone so you know i i spent a lot of money a lot of time a lot of energy and now

14:16

anybody that's on my team has to you know indulge in the product because they need to understand what it does

14:22

they'll come together and you'll see my mind in the next few minutes on how in

14:27

depth and how detailed and how you know how functional it is to the user and

14:34

unless you use it you would never figure this out you would never see it you wouldn't know it right

14:39

you know i mean i need to know you're how hot your torch needs to be when you're burning things you know

14:46

yeah well when i went online and uh i checked out some of your products um i've never

14:52

seen anything like well i mean like i've seen cases i've seen duke tubes so you were saying

14:57

you you see the plastic boob tubes that you chuck around these are not that these are like

15:03

my god if i pulled one of these out at a party like just the single dupe tube i would have a crowd of people around me

15:10

going oh my god what is that because i haven't seen anything if you'd like i'll show you some of the product

15:17

yeah yeah i mean yeah it looks like a like a candy like stuff i like the green i'm looking

15:23

at the green you know the first thing about my product is that i i really and

15:28

i i really want to protect my consumer i know i'm getting so

15:33

i'm protecting them in every way shape that i can find in my product all right

15:39

the design concept and and the vision of my product is what do you do during the day

15:45

so there's different there's different product ranges within cannabis all right you've got you know

15:51

cannabis flour you roll joints with it you can smoke it in pipes you know you

15:57

have oils you have resins you have hash you have edibles and then so many other

16:03

product ranges so with each product okay i designed i found that category

16:11

i'm starting with cannabis uh flower and the concept there is what do you do

16:16

during the day what do you do during the weekend what do you do what you do travel and it will follow through all

16:23

the other categories so on a daily basis what do i do during the day

16:29

i take a beautiful stingray i go to

16:34

i wrap it it has my camellia color which is my signature color for the whole product

16:40

it will pop open lock down easy access for cleaning

16:46

so you can unscrew this this is all made in new york city

16:53

i use the same tanneries that every major contour design in new york with this is what you do during the day

16:59

i make them in two sizes and make them in joint size which is 98

17:05

by 12 millimeter and one size which is 110 by 14.

17:12

that's the days and then you can come into what you do on the

17:18

weekends should be my american alligator doubles

17:25

work the same exact way yeah okay i like the sound of me lock them down

17:33

now in i guess five different shapes

17:39

i do them in

17:44

three french caskins in singles doubles joints and blunts

17:51

everything is named after birds and this would be um swan

17:57

and gold's finch okay so i do that in calfskin

18:02

i do one stingray right now and then i do

18:07

alligators okay on your and also

18:13

and then i do five colors of lizard

18:19

which would be a black lizard a brown beautiful blue

18:25

yeah a neon pink and a beautiful neon green

18:30

yeah and again these caps are really strong and really durable

18:36

but they're not gonna break they're not gonna fall off and that they snap down an airtight why

18:42

the bird why the bird names for everything you can go on my website and read about

18:49

it but it's one of the two things in the world that you know it has the control of the earth

18:55

it controls the skies the lands and the water you know it walks on land it swims

19:00

in the ocean and flies in the sky there's nothing more beautiful than a bird you know with the colors and and

19:08

and just how they are around the world and and just the most magnificent colors and

19:14

chasing fighters you know it's just it's just nothing more beautiful the only thing maybe more beautiful is fish

19:23

if you're lucky enough to see them because they live under the water so i generally don't go down there my owl is

19:29

my my company logo wait when you first started um how many years ago when when

19:34

did free minded startup you know this is around seven years from concept to you know okay product what was your launch

19:41

product what was the thing that that you you invested in to get it off the ground and to enter this luxury market what was

19:48

what was that product you know that's an interesting question and the answer is is everything that you

19:53

see right now it takes so much time to develop yeah no doubt you know i just can't come

19:59

out again okay so to come up with the design the concept the hardware you know the

20:06

developing of it and and finding the skins at work and then you know the field testing it takes a year or two

20:13

just to develop that you know and i'm not sitting home just saying well let's see what the factory does

20:19

this week and hopefully i can launch with it yeah so you know i keep

20:24

on firing different design concepts i keep on executing different design concepts

20:31

you know everything is evolving so you know you got the two joints right

20:38

so on my on my trip out to colorado and also out

20:44

to la i walked into a store called max fields and i walked out of there saying

20:50

to myself what would happen that willie nelson was in town

20:55

and his roadies walked into max fields and wanted to buy him a canvas for

21:03

and the the buyer in the store i asked that question and she shows me

21:09

old tiffany cigarette boxes so i i went home and i started thinking

21:16

to myself how do i design something that he would be proud of throwing on the table and

21:22

people would say what is that right so my inspiration is max field's willie

21:28

nelson is in silver peaks in colorado what i've come up with is i'm working with a factory in

21:34

florence italy and i've created a crocodile three joint case holder

21:40

looks like this very small

21:47

but you can see here let's see if i can find the camera there's no stitch work anywhere on this

21:53

product it's all handmade all hand molded a little hand tipped

22:00

it's not beautiful yeah and on top of that you open it up

22:05

wow and then i have this beautiful cherry wood in there nice hardwood and the reason why that's

22:12

in there is because i worry that somebody's going to sit on it and crack it that's the technology

22:17

well the nice thing about it is that this comes out oh wow okay you can come in there

22:24

take your blunts and you can put blunts in there if you like okay lock it and close it

22:32

so this is something else that i've been designing i have to have a beautiful

22:39

pink and the really cool thing about it is if you take it to the clubs at night it will glow

22:45

so it's reflective oh that's awesome so something very different

22:50

do the neon green tubes also glow in the uv light i'm curious

22:56

those are made in florence italy okay okay i would love to try to get that color i've actually asked my

23:02

factory to try to get me some more some more skins to test yeah

23:08

you know but those are very expensive those products you know they're all handmade hand molded you know they're

23:14

also all hand lined inside there's no mold you know the work inside there is yeah

23:20

it's work at all it's just amazing when you're paying for quality craftsmans craftsmanship like this is

23:28

this is high quality product clearly it looks beautiful need to go for 2100 the

23:33

neon and the alligator will go a crocodile brown will go for 2 000. if

23:38

you go to dunhill and you want to buy one of these in a cigar case there'll be 5500. yeah

23:44

wow which is just off the wall what else can i tell you show you i mean excuse me so this would be my home

23:52

product for my travel case okay this is baskin all hand made in florence italy

23:59

it has a hard shell so it won't crush this is all magnetic

24:05

so it has magnetic fields to it all right open it up this is my storage box

24:13

that's cool what i like about it is let me go this way

24:19

is that it's this is friend excuse me turkish lambskin and again i'm worried about people's

24:26

abuse to my product so you know the thc the cbd oil nicotine flavors saliva even

24:33

windex for a day won't stain it so if you're at the clothes you get sloppy and you wake up in the morning you can clean

24:39

it it won't be damaged inside is this beautiful you can stuff it with anything that you

24:46

want inside i have here my joint tubes you know one hitter another joint two some rolling

24:52

papers you can stash all your joints in there if you want three whole gallons whatever you like this is all magnetic

24:58

so the box comes out come in here

25:03

you got the cannabis inside yes you can lock it magnetic drops back in here you can

25:09

put this in your bag your suitcase you stick it in your drawer you can stick it in the house anywhere to hide it from

25:14

the kids that's awesome and it's a lot smaller than my little chocolate thing isn't it

25:20

that's awesome and i make them in three colors same exact three colors before black

25:27

navy and gold yeah see i can see you carrying my stuff

25:32

yeah like this sorry there's a little bit of a delay um i i'm blown i'm blown like i'm

25:38

mesmerized by this right now and and i think i i'm assuming that it's

25:43

probably true for for maybe maybe mary jane as well but i mean i grew up because of the environment i

25:49

grew up in and seeing all the pop culture stuff and that

25:55

the the stigma that was there about the dark everything was dark dingy smokey

26:01

dirty yeah like that was that was so much my perception like like what you're

26:07

doing here is like is like and i've already seen in the short time i've been within the industry

26:13

and and meeting with people that use cannabis and i've seen that oh you know there is a higher level there is a

26:19

raising of the bar that is out there but this is like i i it's like i'm watching

26:24

like some like amazing movie like i'm watching i'm watching what you've designed here and it's it's destroying

26:31

that that stigma and it's clearly high fashion it's quite amazing i really want

26:36

to elevate it and really show the beauty that we can bring to cannabis

26:41

yeah i love that because you remember the commercials in the 70s with nancy reagan

26:47

you know she drops an egg and she goes you know um you know this is your mind yeah this

26:52

is drugs you remember that commercial you know and they put cannabis in that product range so you know

26:59

that if you did this drug you would eventually go to another drug yeah and that's why it was so dark and

27:05

scary you know yeah but in the 70s you got caught with a joint you know walking down the street

27:12

it wasn't like a walk through the woods in a in a culture that is

27:17

unfortunately feeds its its own stigma by remaining in that kind of

27:24

that's that subculture did you did you see the risk though of investing in this and going would the

27:32

regular cannabis user invest you know that much money into the

27:37

product or would most of them just say look not at not my world you know i have four different people

27:43

that look at my product i have some people look at my product and go wow 119 dollars for a joint tube

27:50

too much money yeah then i have other people that look at my product

27:56

and say i spend between two and three thousand dollars a month on cannabis

28:01

and there's not enough storage in your product that i can put my stuff in

28:06

then you have the consumer that i've been looking for which is the jet setters people that have money

28:12

people that like accessories people that like to buy bags and shoes and watches you know and melts they like to

28:19

accessorize when they see an accessory most people when they see an accessory they don't look where it's made they

28:25

just say wow it's beautiful i have to have it okay those are the people that i look for so

28:31

when people i just went on a couple shows and before the end of the show i had a couple of california growers come

28:37

to me and it goes i don't care what you tell me but i'm going home with all this

28:43

you know and that you can't right on the spot yeah and then my other consumer is wow

28:49

this is really beautiful i have a friend of mine that i like to buy it for you know right

28:54

so those are the kind of people that are into this bike it's not the everyday consumer most people are not going to

28:59

spend 300 for a joint you know but for my valentine's day you

29:05

know some gentleman is going to buy one of these

29:14

they'll do something like that so you know you create product you know i'm

29:19

also doing a vegan line so you know i'm doing my significant colors okay but i'm going to be doing it and

29:26

vegan in the next couple of months because i know it's a big market that people have really been asking me for i want vegan they don't want animal

29:32

products so vegan will definitely be on the line most probably another two months you'll start seeing it you know

29:40

hit the website and possibly some of my you know retail stores that i'm going into well it's definitely like i um you

29:46

know mj and i talk a lot about the uh the concept that not everything is

29:52

for everybody so as a professional comic you know people are always saying you know does it does it bother you you know

29:57

if a show doesn't go well and i'm like you know my responsibility is to provide the best comedy that i can provide and

30:04

comedy is very subjective and there's some people that won't pay my fee to bring me in and there's some people that

30:10

won't enjoy my comedy but there are other people who who will and

30:16

um i think some people are afraid to like i know say for example in the comedy industry there are a lot of

30:21

comics who lower their price way too much because they're like well no one's going to spend that much but then you realize

30:28

that there are i come out of fashion and i watch companies do

30:33

you know markups that are just ridiculous yeah you look at some of these big design bags a perfect example

30:40

dunhill is selling the same exact piece that i'm selling for 5500

30:46

and go right now on the website dunhill you know alligator crocodile cigar case

30:52

same exact technology absolutely breathtakingly beautiful 5500 bucks i'm 2 000.

30:59

yeah you know so yeah you know my market

31:05

is my market i i have a direction that i'm trying to bring people to and show it and elevate it yeah you know do i

31:12

have a lot of people on my bandwagon i think a lot of people are respecting what i'm doing you know yeah i think i want to see that

31:19

i want the product or can't afford the product and i'm okay with that you know yeah i'm trying to bring this world to a

31:25

luxury cat not just a head shop have you talked to justin bieber i'm an

31:31

apparel i'm not in i'm not in music i'm not in comedy i'm not in in the arts

31:37

i've been trying to get influencers to get to my desk you know i have my list of people i love to partner with

31:42

you know i think i need to face a serious space behind my product that wants to promote it with me

31:48

what was the other thing that you were going to show us that you had in your hand before i went down a tangent so the uh apothecarist also has a vape

31:55

case which is called the uh the traveler

32:00

little tiny case exactly the same way all the magnetic locks

32:06

the only difference is i'll get up

32:11

this whole

32:19

and then you can see here you can keep all your products in there

32:24

lock it down magnetically i love the magnets all magnetic

32:31

take your vape hands out if you like drop your case in here

32:37

yeah and bring a pendant black shirt black pen doesn't help sometimes you see on a camera

32:45

oh that's great lock it down again it comes in beautiful blue and also brown

32:52

yeah

32:57

and then the last one let me see if i can uh i'm gonna change the camera

33:05

see this is the one i've been eyeing up the whole time yeah

33:12

this one is called the diplomatic pouch okay i've seen this one online it's french cat skin

33:19

it takes a man a whole week to create just one this has been field tested most probably

33:26

now for the last four years probably around a dozen samples have

33:32

been created you open it up

33:39

and it's like a wallet the cool thing about it is all these pieces are magnetic

33:46

so this is my stash box yeah this is my my joint holder on my pen case

33:53

and this is my rolling tray oh wow

34:00

beautiful workmanship yeah inside you can put your money or your credit

34:07

cards in here the stitch work is just amazing

34:17

yeah again the stitch work is just really really beautiful i love that just open the top

34:25

buckle yeah i have a very special material that holds back the hem

34:31

slide and slide down it you can keep your cannabis in here or

34:36

you can keep your joints or you can keep some rolls if you like has a very high edge

34:44

so it holds back the smell locks down nice and tight

34:49

put that in there this is my

34:56

joint case holder holds the joint tube

35:01

sliding lined inside you can put a bait pen in here if you like

35:07

or joint two or a joint snap it down

35:16

right here is my grinding card which is this on the back of my grinding card

35:24

is tools that's awesome

35:31

that's great we'll take your rolling paper and pull it out okay

35:36

it's just like cleaning it like filters you can use some hold this here

35:42

a little white part here is for filters drawing filters you can keep filters in there if you

35:48

open this up this will be your only trade very high ridge edge right in this

35:54

corner so when you're rolling it won't fall off i feel like this is

36:00

like a magical cannabis and you can grind it

36:06

when you're done grinding it all you do is tap it and then when you're ready

36:11

you'll like this feature oh my god and you just loaded your funnel right

36:18

there you take the funnel cannabis and you drop it down in there

36:25

come back awesome do your role on the tray you could do this on the beach you can do this any way that you want yeah

36:31

if you don't like rolling papers then the cool part about it is that you can see if you use sticking on

36:38

tubes fill it down with that tool what you the stash down your product into it

36:44

now if you're not a cannabis user there's no way you would think of this no

36:50

i feel like it's so funny last time was like now you can

36:56

take my product and you can just take this and put it in your bag or your pocket during the day

37:01

if you want yeah take a roll tray just alone by itself or if you want you can combine them

37:08

stick that in your pocket and go so this is where all the field test is

37:14

kept on telling me after you start creating the product you know

37:19

and then when you're done just lock it down

37:27

yeah see and this is why my storage case is so large because in order to fit the

37:32

papers the filter the trays and

37:38

how wait how much did you say how much did you say that was that that would be twelve hundred and ninety five dollars

37:43

you have to realize well it's under price it's not machine made it's a guy's

37:48

salary for a whole week is in there if you go to my competitors that would cost you five six thousand dollars

37:55

no doubt i i feel like i've just watched the magic show todd like i didn't seem a little mad i felt like like i was i

38:01

think she was laughing because i was leaning forward going i i don't even know what all that stuff does but every

38:07

time you pulled out another contraption i'm just like this is amazing in fairness that's because he was getting

38:13

into the the rolling part and as he was kind of like doing with the rolling tray like this i could see that there was a

38:19

little opening where i just assumed you were going to just dump dump the cannabis out but like then hold

38:25

on a little right now i was like oh yeah cones i was like this this is crazy not only is it luxury

38:31

but it's functionable yeah it's functional are the best materials in the world in the best factories on the

38:37

planet you know this is what you buy when you buy luxury you know the only difference is that i'm

38:44

not making wallets i'm not making belts i'm not making handbags i've created a new cat a new category of luxury

38:52

i don't think i would be able to break any of that stuff that i seen i think if anything i would lose it and then as i

38:57

was thinking that i'm like no there's no way i would lose that because that would be like

39:03

it would be more important than my phone it legitimately would because like that that would you call it the uh exec the

39:10

executive they're showman pieces you know willie nelson pulls us out of his

39:15

pocket and throws on the table and people go by yeah yeah especially if he pulled the pink one

39:21

could you imagine i like like my beyonce or brianna you

39:27

know yeah yeah oh it's gorgeous they're beautiful i'm doing them in leathers also i'm

39:33

trying to bring the price points down what's the big all-in-one thing called again that's called the diplomatic pouch

39:40

i actually make it in an alligator oh yeah see that was the one i was i was

39:45

eyeing up the blue oh sexy that is that yeah sexy is the best word

39:50

for this right now todd sex we like sexy as a word to describe what we're seeing

39:56

yeah well you can see that i'm picking the best parts of the alligator

40:01

this is the belly it's perfectly balanced in the pattern

40:07

you can see here you know what is couture it's when you take something and you make art out of

40:13

it you know not just cut it off so if you look at this box you can see that it's just one piece of belly alligator

40:21

actually rolled it so it's still one skin completely around the whole thing oh wow

40:27

i couldn't tell it's not even on that and made it cheaper but you want to make it really beautiful the

40:33

same exact thing here with the join pen if you look at the join pen

40:38

when i open it up it's going to change it's going to be belly skin the side side of the alligator

40:45

oh this perfectly matches even down to the joint case

40:50

so it's going to match here but then when you flip it over it's going to be a different

40:55

afternoon oh yeah completely lined

41:04

that's great so you know i'm really trying to elevate the privately elevate the industry with the product

41:12

this comes in two colors which is the cobalt and also in the brown you asked me which was the first product

41:18

that came to market and i came to market with four products

41:24

and the reason why i came to four products but the time of evolution took so long to

41:29

develop it that everything all my eggs were ready at the same time

41:35

and even while i i'm developing even now that i perspective this i'm now

41:41

you know trying to perfect an underwater waterproof joint tube

41:47

nice as we speak you know there's so many other ideas and

41:52

directions that i'm bringing this into you know that it just keeps on coming to the

41:58

table you know the more people i talk to you know people i communicate with

42:04

i see their interests i've been doing all the shows give me something for underwater give me some

42:10

vegan you know those are easy to accommodate yeah you know but some of the other design concepts are very very you know

42:17

you have to find the manufacturing you have to find the locations and you have to do all the field testing and then you

42:23

have to make sure that your product is going to hold up to the quality in the workmanship that you expect to hand it

42:29

to somebody you know every time i hand this it's me handing this to you

42:35

yeah that's how i look at it it's me handing this to you this is an intention of my hand to give it to you

42:41

so if i'm doing that it has to be absolutely beautiful it has to be the best

42:46

and if it's not i'm just going to take it back and no questions asked here's another one well you're definitely uh

42:52

um you're definitely achieving that goal like it's it's it's really my it's really mind-blowing

42:58

and i'm sure i mean the sky is the limit now right i mean the number of products although that all in one case covers it

43:05

all anyways but the number of products that you can elevate um and raise the bar in uh is is pretty substantial oh

43:13

i'm going to be making you know wallets purses for women that's going to have

43:19

trays in it and stash boxes and lighters it'll be just like this one

43:26

magnificent bag that you can just go out at night and everything will be in there in in in the most beautiful

43:33

designer bag and shapes and colors that you can find and guys that go to work

43:38

will be having their little you know their little pouches with all their accoutrements sitting

43:44

inside it also there's endless areas i can keep on going humidors breathtaking

43:49

humidors that i'll end up doing when when you were showing off that all-in-one um

43:58

diplomatic pouch i was already in my head i'm like if i had a pair of shoes

44:04

that matched that pouch like so i'm like you need to make the shoes that match the pouch

44:12

right because you know what the shoes on the couch the pouch in the hands

44:18

too many sizes and shoes oh that's a good point or you could find a designer that you work with and be like yo you

44:25

have the shoes and i have the pouch and we promote each other and yeah i will co-brand with anybody you

44:32

know there's always mlqs but at the end of the day you know for me to kill brandon i am doing some

44:39

co-branding with some some nice influencers you know so i'm doing tubes with them and other

44:45

products that we're creating together so hopefully the next five to six months you'll start seeing some of the stuff in

44:52

the market it takes time this is all hand done yeah you know if you gave me you know a five million dollar order and

44:58

say have it in two months and it never happened it takes a week for a guy to make one yeah production line i have in a

45:05

production line i must probably have five or six people making it now after their belt

45:10

product you know pieces but at the end of the day if if you ask me to make a sample it

45:16

will take me a week to make one sample right and imagine that you uh you

45:22

you can kind of save some money on trying to hire a sales force because if you just go into any sort of gathering

45:29

and put that down on the table like you were saying how willie nelson just drops it down or whatever you bring that you bring that

45:35

diplomatic case and you just put it down somewhere i mean that that that sells itself i would immediately be coming

45:40

over going um tell me about this thing how do i get that like like when you got a product that sells itself as much as

45:46

this seems to be doing in my mind and i'm not even a consumer i'm just looking at going this is this is art and it's high quality and it'd be like that's

45:53

that's beautiful um that's amazing what i really love about the diplomatic pouch is after i had my field test it was um

46:01

you know designed and created with me and i've given it to some people that i

46:06

i have tremendous respect for that are cannabis users and i'm waiting for their feedback you know like oh it's

46:14

not enough you know space my cannabis oh the rolling tray is no good oh i don't like this oh i don't like that

46:21

you know after you go into production and you finally dropped one in somebody's hands you're sitting there

46:26

waiting for me to come out and say okay yes or no and when they come back the

46:32

words amazing to me then you know i i figured i got something going on you know

46:38

and they said it was amazing to find out why and then change it to those specs

46:44

and you field test with a bunch of different people that you that you respect you feel tested with men and women young

46:52

and old you know and also different group settings you know the old fees down to you know young

47:00

levels and then seeing what those feedbacks and needs are from them it's just not like one guy and i say what do

47:07

you think yeah you know you're trying to get the world's you know the potheads around the world you know brain

47:13

you know what part of the mind and what part of the energy that you see in this product that you want to see more of you

47:20

know let's just use the uh the diplomatic case as an example here

47:25

um you've said how it takes about a week to make if you had to make one sample how

47:31

long do you think it it was from from concept to going through that field testing process to

47:38

you going this is it this is this is amazing like like is that like you know was that a

47:44

couple years like i can imagine it doesn't happen overnight but i can tell

47:49

you that from concept to production

47:54

three and a half years possibly maybe four

47:59

and i'll tell you also that my next generation there'll be a little

48:04

twitches and little changes you won't notice but i will right like this bothers me

48:11

you know you all recognize it but to me i know you know

48:17

i know that i brought it to a 98 i can get to a 99 i don't know if i could ever

48:23

perfect anything but i know i can get as high as i possibly can imagine to get

48:29

it too i have many beautiful eyes look at my products and critique me you know

48:34

trained eyes not just mine but trained guys so i have trained that see i'm a fashion recruiter

48:42

so i have the skill that most people don't have on the planet which is

48:48

34 years of relationships of placing some of the finest artisans in fashion

48:54

and i can make a phone call and just say who does this what does this

48:59

where can i get it and within one phone call you know i'm already in the factory where

49:06

you get there tens of thousands of dollars to find it and then you have to beg the guy to get in the door

49:12

yeah i just take one phone call and i'm in the door and then on top of that

49:18

i place those people in the last 34 years so if i have a technical problem i can call my technicians up and say hey i

49:24

need your help can you take a look at my product and tell me what i need to do so that's why i'm at this elevation of

49:31

canada you know and the other thing is i love people i'm a personnel recruiter you know and i've

49:37

helped so many people in their career paths that it's just the love of the people that i've taken care

49:43

of have given back to love to me with their knowledge and just

49:48

and and walk me through the process of designing and creating this magnificent product range

49:54

you know just an absolute compliment to have them come back with the love that i've given them well it definitely goes

50:00

to show um you know i i've been a big believer in the fact of

50:06

you know using using your past you know the failures and the successes and and

50:11

you never underestimate any human being you come across because you don't know how they're going to play a role in the

50:17

future i mean and what you're showing here with this story is that you know all these different

50:22

experiences and paths and people that you met all come together um to this place and who knows i mean 10

50:30

years ago did you think you were going to be making high quality cannabis accessories i would probably not i would

50:36

imagine no no not at all i sit at this desk even today and saying oh my god i was using

50:42

the stuff smoking the stuff like crazy and now i'm back in the stuff you know

50:48

you never know where like you you know you just look at everything calibrated and try to make the best decisions and

50:55

you know my career path that i took as a young man to be a high-end couture

51:01

faculty food on 7th avenue in new york city you know it it metamorphosed me into the

51:08

direction of doing this it was like i'm always a believer that you don't go into a business unless you are an expert

51:15

in the field because in my business you'll lose your shirt if you spend the money

51:21

you know if you don't know the product and you don't have the knowledge of the product then you can't really understand

51:26

the product you hire people that's going to teach you and train you it's going to be very costly yeah but i have two things that

51:34

that demanded me to stay into this field is my role that's the people

51:39

that i can just tap into and get i also come from a family-run apparel

51:44

manufacturing business so i understand about manufacturing and on top of that because i'm a fashion

51:51

recruiter i understand how to manufacture because i i place the

51:56

people i understand the lingo i understand the knowledge of it and then

52:01

for you you need to be a user of the product if you want to be in the game because you don't have to understand it

52:07

yeah you know and for you to be better at something you have to be completely involved with it

52:12

yes and it can't be a sideline you know sideliners are never going to win you know because you're gonna drop

52:18

the ball you'll never figure out to put a funnel in that you know you'll never figure out to get a grinding tool and

52:23

put it on the tray yeah you know it's just you know you figure out other things maybe hinges and

52:28

things like that but at the end of the day to get down to the little tiny details that people love

52:35

you won't find unless you use products well i think if anything today todd you've you've managed though to

52:42

uh to to talk to a newbie on adobe you've got the doobie who

52:48

is you know all all like open-eyed regarding like those little tiny details

52:53

and you've got a newbie who's just going um i i may not understand all those little intricate details of the cannabis

53:00

use but i understand art and high quality and passion

53:06

and all of what you are exhibiting in terms of the product uh

53:11

like you've ta you've show you've showed us something today that that has i think captured uh the attention of both the

53:17

newbie and adobe which which is very difficult to do in the cannabis industry well i i personally um i've always

53:24

believed that it's either fashionable or functional it's never both

53:30

and i think you've just proven me wrong with your your line there because it's beautiful it's high quality and it's

53:37

functioning it's got everything you could possibly need you wouldn't have to carry

53:42

like i was just telling timmy earlier actually i carry around um an ammunition box is what i carry my

53:49

cannabis in when i travel it's got my tray it's got my like my papers my filters everything um

53:56

take a picture please that that case the diplomatic um case is

54:02

it's incredible it does everything that her ammo box does yeah and it's

54:08

mine's like it's an ammo box i was telling timmy i need a makeup case a pull-along makeup case to carry all of

54:14

my stuff because i do the trade show is everybody comes over to me and shows me

54:19

their storage units yes of how they they carry their products and i'm just

54:24

laughing the whole time i'm like how can i be the only person to figure this one out

54:30

you know it just doesn't make sense you know i've

54:35

seen some interesting little boxes made for people but it's just garbage there's no design

54:42

into it it's just like hard plastic it's always something that a stoner has seen somewhere

54:48

it was something we've seen somewhere and thought i could put wheat in that right it's nothing it's nothing

54:54

beautiful or whatever it's just yeah it's it's functional it's not fashionable that's why i'm saying this

55:00

is both it's got everything well i was a kid we were making we were making bonds out of our um

55:08

we would steal beacons out of outside out of school a little hard black plastic a little

55:15

backward plastic we drilled two holes put a screw in one screw a bowl on it

55:20

right and then we would take that you know the drip rot the drip uh tubes

55:26

right yeah put it onto the thread and then we would take a knitting needle and we would cut the back of that and put it in

55:32

as a mounties and then we would drop a tube down and put water in it make bombs out of it

55:38

because there was a lot of just nothing but when we were kids it's one thing that i've noticed about about the cannabis

55:44

brain uh it finds a way to um accomplish the task like like she's

55:51

taught me on the show here we have a section called oh she will find a way to take care of your head absolutely

55:58

well she she's taught me how to like you know how to make a bong out of a water bottle and a pen and i'm just like man

56:04

you you cannabis people you got a brain that that is at is a another level well clearly look at this product

56:14

you would think i smoked a lot of it as a kid i just don't care well todd we uh did my share

56:21

we we we really thank you for uh spending time with us today and showing this stuff like uh mind blown um just just amazing

56:29

amazing art and functionality and uh we really we wish you the best in this we know
