[Music] hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Newbie and the

0:20

Doobie my name is Timmy I am the Newbie Mary Jane I am the Doobie we're so

0:25

excited to have with us today on the spot Mimi cannabis our first return guest to the show Mimi thanks so much

0:32

for joining us again thank you so much for having me I am such a fan such a fan uh you call I'm

0:39

here I I love it I I'm even gonna tell people flat out full disclosure she's not just

0:46

saying this for the show I think you were the fastest response to an email [ __ ] link than we have ever seen I

0:53

was like I sent it to Mimi oh she's booked oh I love I love the whole premise of

1:00

what you're doing and and you know um I think it's really bringing a lot of

1:05

awareness especially to a lot of newbies and um and to a lot of doobies so

1:11

um I think the whole concept of the show is exactly what the industry needs

1:16

um I love the comedy I love the whole everything surrounding it so that's

1:21

awesome well thank you so much well the very fact that you're our first return guest tells you how much we love you too so now that we're past the mutual loving

1:29

let's get down to business Mimi okay talk to me about your love affair with

1:34

the with Bob Marley who is behind you well actually that was a gift from my husband

1:40

for my office off for Christmas with my head a bit

1:46

from there yes yes so I wanted something um uh really different and and I'm a big

1:54

like when I think of growing up and my first cannabis experiences and listening

2:01

to Bob Marley I mean those are definitely um my Fondest Memories so

2:08

um I wanted a Bob Marley picture so um hence there it is that's what was my

2:14

Christmas gift last year for Mimi cannabis headquarters nice now the

2:19

record on the what the record behind him is that that his own gold record or yes that is Redemption song that is the

2:27

record of Redemption Song so which is probably one of my favorites so yes all

2:33

right do you want to sing it oh no I couldn't do it that much Justice

2:38

no but it is it's a beautiful song it's uh it's it's really really really good

2:44

so I love all of it so but yeah I just want

2:49

to say that the three little birds is is my favorite Bob Marley song and um

2:54

whenever I was feeling down that was my I would put on three little birds and it would just make me feel

3:00

better I already know which one three little birds is I feel bad right now which

3:06

means three little birds they're sitting in the window yeah I I definitely remember that sweet

3:13

songs can you hum it help me out here help me out here ladies I'll play it for you later oh well I

3:20

know it you will but yes I kind of wanted to um uh I also have a huge

3:26

Audrey Hepburn in my office as well so um my office is kind of um

3:33

a mixed bag of very people that have influenced my life you know so so

3:40

where's our picture is our picture up there she's looking at it right now yeah

3:45

okay all right so if there's a fire in your house do you grab the Audrey pitcher or

3:51

the Bob Marley picture I would grab probably both of them plus my husband

3:56

has a Toronto Maple Leafs one that has an actual original score card oh sweet

4:03

oh yeah from when they your face just lit right so his office is completely

4:09

Italian soccer and Toronto Maple Leafs well now Canadian soccer because he got

4:15

some Canadian soccer stuff yesterday for his birthday because we may actually

4:21

have a presence at the World Cup so um that's very exciting for him so

4:28

um soccer is is very important to him and hockey so yeah we'd be grabbing those real fast

4:34

hahaha do you feel do you think that um would you list Bob Marley as one of the

4:42

like let's let's say that the most influential people in the Cannabis

4:48

Journey I would have to say he's definitely in the top five for sure yeah um music-wise

4:56

the way he lived his life um um the laid-back

5:02

um lifestyle and and the love he had for everyone was you know was like nobody

5:09

else really um yeah I'd have to say he's definitely uh in the top five Tommy Chong Bob

5:17

Marley you know I've I've spent time with Tommy Chong so is MJ and and we can

5:24

attest to the fact that he is just like sitting in a room with anybody you know what I mean so

5:31

um another another big fan definitely a big fan of uh both of those people and

5:37

they were a big part of my growing up and cannabis influence right so

5:43

um remind me again when the Cannabis influence first started for you how young were you

5:52

type of cannabis when I was 15 and I'm 58. so

5:58

that's a long time ago you've been in it for the long haul I've been in it for the long haul

6:04

um you know we've discussed I discussed this in most of my interviews um I did have a stage in my life where I drank a

6:10

little bit but drinking's never really been um for lots of reasons

6:16

um just because of I've lost a lot of people to alcoholism in my life

6:21

um so drinking has never been something that um was something that I should do

6:29

um so uh cannabis was definitely I knew right away the first time I tried it and

6:35

that that was going to be my go-to in life and it certainly has been so

6:42

have you have you changed your method of consumption over the years we talked to people who their first thing was a bong

6:48

and some people most people I feel start off with the joint has your method changed as you've gotten older

6:55

oh yes because I use it medically um for a number of ailments um I

7:00

probably my number one consumption is oil um I I ingest oil lots of it

7:09

um equal amounts balanced oils equal amounts of thcm CBD yeah no just I just

7:15

want to interrupt you how do you take your oil do you just uh publicly under my tongue

7:21

okay I take two full meals every day of one to one oil once in the morning and

7:27

usually once later in the day um it and I couldn't be without it I have a

7:34

lot of things going on with me but one of my biggest problems is spasms I deal

7:39

with a lot of muscle spasms um and that is the only thing that keeps

7:46

my muscle spasms at Bay without making well if you knew what they want to prescribe you to try to function in the

7:52

day for muscle spasms you can't function so um one-to-one oil allows me to function

7:59

keeps my spasms at Bay and um I'm not a zombie

8:05

um so you know traditional Pharmaceuticals that they want to give you for muscle spasms are yeah they make

8:13

you they make you pretty tired and they make you so you know that's just not a choice for me I work 14 hours a day for

8:20

the most part so yeah no it's it's still it's still baffling me as in the short

8:26

time that I've been exposed to the industry and the plant and the people people in it it's it's it continually

8:33

blows my mind when I hear you talk like that and and there is something that

8:38

effectively removes your pain and people are still going no no you need to take

8:46

this you can't take that and it's like why like this this barrier between something that clearly works is is so

8:53

weird to me oh absolutely you know um you know like I said being able to

9:00

function too is is very important um you know I have a lot of things that

9:06

are that are wrong with me um that's another show for another time right

9:12

um but um to be able to still function and work and

9:17

um you know some of the drugs that I used to take when I was first having these problems I

9:24

couldn't even hardly function and being able to use cannabis oil and still get

9:29

the same results and still be able to function it's a blessing yeah yeah I spent many days uh just

9:37

laying on my couch um remote in hand uh I remember my son

9:43

he was like 9 10 and he was doing most of the hey buddy can you get this for me

9:49

hey buddy can you do this for me because I didn't have the energy to to even get up off the couch dinner consisted of

9:56

like grilled cheese and whatever the hell I could get together quickly because I I wanted to get back to the

10:01

couch because I was mentally and physically exhausted and drained and and I understand what you're saying it was

10:08

it was antidepressant medication it was muscle relaxers for my my

10:15

um whatever inflamed muscle or whatever you call that like and to think that cannabis whether I'm using

10:23

it through smoking or edibles or capsules or whatever you can find or I I

10:28

did at least something that could balance out all that stuff yeah but even

10:34

even though you were bedridden and drained of energy and oh gosh the

10:41

government paid for all of my money I know but at least at least you weren't smoking the devil's lettuce so yeah

10:47

that's right yeah at that point my my children were not in any like I was in

10:52

no fear of CAS coming to my house and saying or taking an illegal substance

10:58

because I was taking Pharmaceuticals the reason why I was on those Pharmaceuticals is because my doctor

11:03

told me I understand that you're medicating with cannabis but cannabis is

11:09

illegal and you have to pay for it how about we take this because this is covered and it's legal so I went I don't

11:17

want to get in trouble and yeah I don't have a lot of money so yeah that just makes sense for sure and people get in

11:24

that trap all the time um you know this is why we have to do more for patients this is why you know

11:31

medical cannabis is you know it's it's time to breathe some life back into it

11:37

um recreational really um took away the importance of Medical in a

11:44

lot of people's eyes I find like um oh I'll just go to the store and you

11:49

know but you're not getting the education you're not getting the proper dosing um advice you're not you know

11:56

like I mean I take I still take Pharmaceuticals as well for anxiety and depression and to be honest with you

12:02

over the last five years I've found my perfect mix between oil

12:08

and what I take um and I've actually gotten through this pandemic pretty good

12:15

um it does take a long time um but I'm also on the other side of menopause before menopause it was worse

12:22

right um now that I'm on the other side of that um you know I'm start like I feel I feel

12:29

great like I've never felt better um and like I've just found the perfect

12:34

mix between oils and pharmaceuticals to keep all my symptoms at Bay

12:40

um but like I will not take um pain medication like opiates or

12:45

anything like that um I will only use cannabis oil for pain

12:51

so um yeah I I'm just not interested in taking

12:56

um opiates at all anymore I have a big surgery coming I'm nervous because I I

13:02

won't want to take any pain medication so it's going to be a bit of a test for

13:08

me uh this summer um having shoulder surgery and without pain medication so we'll see how that

13:14

goes but honestly I think cannabis is is is the answer it's the answer to be able

13:22

to function and to be able to keep our symptoms at Bay it's as simple as that well I I firmly believe and I've said

13:29

this before on the show and in in real life too um I I believe that cannabis can benefit

13:35

everyone now in the same statement which is kind of contradictory and contradictory I say cannabis is not

13:42

always for everybody it is we all have had our bad experiences or some of us have had bad experiences

13:49

um it's all about like you're saying finding the balance for yourself and everybody's different and if

13:56

Pharmaceuticals are in the mix that's fine I'm not saying I shouldn't take Pharmaceuticals that just wasn't what

14:03

was good for me right um and I believe that natural is always better

14:13

[Music] baking soda for acid reflux

14:18

rather than taking Tums because if you look at the ingredients in Tums one of them is sodium bicarbonate which is

14:25

baking soda so I just skip all that other stuff and I just go right to the source you know but I also think that

14:32

you know we have to think about the message you know um not everybody can just use plant

14:39

medicine there's many people that need Pharmaceuticals so I think we have to be extremely careful with that messaging

14:47

um so I think that the plants over pills thing um can be a little bit

14:54

um well when they work right yeah that's great but I also think that there's people that that definitely need

15:01

Pharmaceuticals and um you know I think that we have a responsibility to talk about you know

15:08

using both um simultaneously together um and like I said and that's what's

15:15

worked for me is um and touching on that we need to educate doctors and

15:20

pharmacists as well because if the doctors are prescribing these things like Pharmaceuticals we also the firm

15:27

the pharmacist and the doctors need to know what the interaction is with cannabis because this is all very new

15:33

and oh yeah yeah the jury's still out on heart

15:39

disease and using cannabis the jury's still out on um blood pressure blood thinners yeah blood pressure medications

15:46

so absolutely um and I think that right now what we have is a lot of people

15:53

um I I would have to say close to 70 of the people that approach me don't want

15:58

to take anti-inflammatory medicine anymore because it's very hard on their stomach so they see cannabis as an

16:06

alternative to that and I agree um I can't take anti-inflammatory medicine

16:12

um anymore either um so that's what I'm saying I think that arthritis is probably one of the

16:19

biggest things for people my age that are looking to replace traditional Pharmaceuticals because they are hard on

16:26

people's stomachs and after taking them for so many years it's very difficult whereas cannabis oil is much more

16:33

gentler um so that's kind of how it a lot of it started for me too with just aches and

16:38

pains I couldn't take anti-inflammatory anymore so that's yeah

16:45

exactly exactly it's nice to hear this conversation because the whole time

16:50

you've been talking the both of you in regards to blending these things is because there was a moment a while ago

16:57

with somebody in the industry and there's no point I don't there's no reason to mention the name but somebody

17:02

in the industry who um was was clearly rattled by the

17:08

response of some people when they went cannabis only and then had to bring back

17:14

Pharmaceuticals in and there was this thing of like oh you're a sellout you've you know you've you've let us you've let

17:20

us down and um and it was heartbreaking to hear and so it's nice because they had to bring

17:27

Farmers yeah so it was almost like oh well you know like now you know I'm talking about it it was a crutch or

17:34

something no yeah um I'm sorry but there are many people in our industry that that definitely are

17:42

are using both successfully me included um but I don't think that we should be

17:48

sending that message you know I think that there's people that have different

17:53

degrees of mental health problems and I don't think that sending a message that

17:59

um only use plants when maybe Little Sally in Saskatchewan is watching that

18:05

and you know she's not ready for that but because other people say hey this is

18:11

it you know this could have some really big consequences so I really think that

18:16

we have to be really responsible with our messaging in in regards to that

18:22

um because it isn't forever it isn't for everyone exactly like you said MJ it isn't for everyone and other people

18:29

still do need the help of pharmaceuticals as well see I believe that

18:35

a cannabis Advocate is a cannabis advocate plain and simple whether you're a

18:41

consumer a non-consumer whether you consume Pharmaceuticals you don't you're not consuming cannabis Advocates I'm

18:48

consuming cannabis Advocate Mimi also takes Pharmaceuticals with her cannabis what does it matter we're still

18:55

advocating for this plant absolutely and the fact that I've managed to keep I've

19:01

managed to find the right um I also go to talk therapy as well so

19:07

um I've had a lot of tragedy in my life so you know to talk it out is is very very important too

19:14

um but you know it's not just one thing right you know it's not just one that just made me think it's not if if you

19:21

just had carrots and you ate lots of carrots because carrots are good for you yeah you're still not going to be 100

19:27

healthy that's right but it took me years to get to that point where I can say

19:34

um when I see people suffering terribly terribly right now with mental health I

19:40

you know it breaks my heart because it's just simply because they haven't found the right combination or the right

19:48

um maybe you know between talk therapy and you know some cannabis whatever you

19:53

know what I mean everyone is different you have to find that right mix for you

20:00

um I'm also 58 so I've had a lot more years to play around with this um but you know what

20:07

I feel great I feel fantastic and I think I've found the perfect balance of

20:14

but I'm consistent I take this same time the same like I take my oil at the same

20:20

time I take my meds at the same time I take everything is consistent with me yes I'm very routine like you are uh uh

20:28

Timmy in regards to my how I keep my symptoms at Bay

20:33

um so yeah you have to be very consistent you can't you know take your meds one day and not take them the next

20:39

or use your oil one you know you have to build that oil up in your system like

20:44

I've had people say to me oh I've taken it for three days I am I'm not feeling anything well you have to take it for a

20:51

lot longer than that it's got to work its way into your fatty tissue it's got to work its way and do it yeah right

20:56

that's like people who who like you know like blow their sleep for you know 30 years and then they they get one good

21:04

night's sleep and they're like why am I tired still I got a good night's sleep last night it's like well because you yeah you've already you've got a lot of

21:12

damage to undo you're gonna need more than one good night's sleep to fix this pattern yeah and you know building that

21:18

up into our and and you know it's it takes time it's not like trust me I went

21:26

through some rough periods as far as mental health because I like I said I had quite a bit of tragedy losing people

21:33

in my life and went through a lot um but you know it's uh it took a long

21:39

time but like I said I feel great you know even with this pandemic and everything else

21:45

like don't get me wrong it's been hard it's been hard to not be around people

21:51

it's been hard to you know that aspect of it I'm very social um but you know what I I've gotten

21:57

through it and I feel good so nice so I have I have a question I know we spoke

22:03

before and I know I asked you about your first experience but I don't think I asked you about because you're talking

22:10

about learning you know the right dosage and what you're perfect your homeostasis

22:15

state is um it's his sweet spot right did you ever

22:22

have any negatives like um experiences any bad trips on cannabis if you will

22:28

well you know what I'm not a huge fan of Edibles I'm very careful with Edibles I

22:33

do like the new drinkables I find them a little more um

22:38

um gray Market Edibles wow yikes um

22:44

high dose Edibles um you know what as long as I'm very careful and just take but yes I have had

22:51

a few bad experiences with Edibles where I've eaten too much uh definitely never

22:57

with um smoking or Oils because it's more of a dose but yeah

23:04

um and 10 milligram Edibles really don't you know I don't use many of the legal Edibles I

23:13

usually make something myself and and Infuse it myself if I want something so

23:18

what you're saying you don't I'm guessing it's because it's too low of a dose that's too low of a dose for me and

23:24

I'd have to you know what I mean I just oh I hear you it's a lot of candies to eat all at once yeah like 50 milligrams

23:32

that's exactly because you're right my perfect dose is about 50 60 milligrams anything more than that and I'm pretty

23:39

woo yeah of gummies or Brownies so you have to

23:45

think of the sugar content you have to think of isn't you know know I mean I would have

23:51

liked to have seen in an ideal world because I have a lot of people who come to me for medical cannabis and I have a

23:58

lot of people who would have benefited from a higher dose edible in the medical

24:04

market so I was a little surprised that they kind of missed the boat on that because a lot of people have a hard time

24:11

digesting the oil right so maybe uh you know 20 30 milligram one

24:17

in the medical Market um would have been great for a lot of patients and and people my age and older

24:24

um but I don't know if we're going to see any higher dose Edibles hit the medical Market or anything like that I

24:32

think that they're going to be sticking to 10 milligrams pretty much right across the board so do you think that's

24:38

because they're limped they're like the so from my understanding the Cannabis

24:44

Act was the medical act right it was or it was the mm is it the mmar or yeah MMA

24:51

yes is what we have now or had just before the Cannabis art right when they

24:57

legalized they just said we're going to take the mmar and combine it with the Cannabis act which is why as medical

25:04

like because they put a cap on um the 10 milligrams like you're saying for legal uh for recreational that it's

25:12

it's under the same rules and regulations so therefore medical Edibles

25:17

can still only be 10 milligrams milligrams whereas I think that they could have maybe done something a little

25:24

bit more creative with that for the patient um you know but you know I guess we'll

25:30

see what the future holds um like I said I pretty much um if I want to like I'll make a

25:37

guacamole and I'll Infuse it I'll make you know I make butter I'll make popcorn

25:43

and Infuse it but like I pretty much um Infuse myself I don't buy

25:50

um you know um so yeah you know by the pre-made Edibles no I like the drinks I do enjoy

25:58

the drinks um very much because I don't and it was so nice I I had people over recently and

26:05

I offered both um alcohol and cannabis drinks and you know

26:10

what it was really nice to be able to offer that to people um and I think that you know that's

26:16

going to be kind of the new norm and I I like that um well we see them in restaurants where you can order a cannabis beverage I hope

26:23

so um we'll see so since you're a fan of

26:28

the Cannabis beverages I and I am not because the ones that I've tried are all carbonated

26:35

um is there any that are non-carbonated yeah there's actually one called Summit and it's a lemon iced tea and it's still

26:42

it's not carbonated and it's not acidy at all um MJ you would love it it's so

26:49

good well I mean as a person with acid reflux yep that's that's the same it's yeah problems I'm like every single

26:55

drink I've ever purchased yeah had carbonation in it and I'm like you guys are missing the mark and people keep

27:02

telling me it's it's something to do with the the distillate that they're using that it actually like the the

27:07

carbonation helps with I don't try the summit lemon iced tea it's still there's

27:13

no carbonation and I'm a big fan of that one actually I will and I like the tea I do I like

27:19

the tea you know I like the tea and I like to just even Infuse my tea I

27:26

think it's great that there's you know all these different ways to consume like

27:31

you know I've been very vocal on this show about you know that there was you know all I ever knew and probably was

27:37

true for a lot of people was the The Joint that that was the image you saw

27:42

that was all you knew and seeing all these different ways and because it's like when you talked about bad

27:48

experiences even you know it's hard enough for human beings to get past

27:53

uncomfortable things so for example like in the stigma world you know I've got I

27:58

know a couple people who and you're you know you do a lot of work with say the 55 and up

28:05

um and I know a few people in that range that were even told you should try

28:10

cannabis um to help with this this or this and

28:16

their initials it was it's going to be hard enough because you know they they said oh they didn't have a good reaction

28:21

and that's that's hard enough to get by but then you have the stigma of going oh

28:27

it's cannabis so they were already leery going in so the very first bad experience they're like nope I can't do

28:32

this anymore and and we know we know that's what people my age and older are like yeah and it's so hard to try to

28:39

fight especially somebody who never had a drink if they never like to drink in their life so they didn't like the

28:45

feeling of being buzzed right like now they're gonna take a substance that could possibly make them feel mind-alter

28:52

like a mind-altering drug whether it's relaxing or you know most of the time

28:58

when I used to smoke in my brain would go off on these long like English was my

29:03

favorite class once I started consuming because I would write five ten page essays

29:10

listen and like I said I like my vape for instance it's a one-to-one you know

29:16

um everything I pretty much use except for after sort of eight o'clock at night

29:21

is balanced after eight o'clock at night full on THC right that's how I that's

29:28

how I use cannabis basically in a nutshell um so I use balance products all day

29:35

long balanced oils balance Vapes I I work like normal I drive like normal I

29:42

go do do do do um but once I'm home and that's it for the day that's when I pull out the big

29:49

guns and you know like my nice uh my nice quads and my nice high thcs that I

29:55

love to have um but that's basically how I medicate but that that's yeah I mean a lot of

30:01

that is predicated on on good uh education and information right like you like the way I the way I handle my food

30:08

like there's you know the the meal that I make where everybody goes once you get bored of eating that every morning it's

30:13

like no I don't because I've invested so much time and under like it wasn't just thrown together haphazard I've tried

30:20

different doses of this and this and this to get different macronutrients right some things would make my stomach

30:26

start to spin and it'd be like okay what's causing that do I need less than that and I think that's where people get

30:33

stuck and it's weird because if you go back to Pharmaceuticals people go in

30:38

Pharmaceuticals and they're just like okay that didn't work out but now I'm gonna I'm gonna work and try to find the right the Right Mix but yet if they have

30:46

a bad cannabis thing it's kind of like throw it out and it's like well no just work that through too find out your

30:51

method find out your dose because it's no different than anything else figure out what works for you there's a reason

30:59

why they say start low and go slow and you know people will say oh that's so

31:04

corny but is there's a reason why there's a reason and I explained that when I educate a

31:10

patient I explain there's a reason why we do that it's it's called tritration we have to find that sweet spot in our

31:18

body that because my body and your body is gonna is gonna do

31:23

metabolize it differently there's just so I mean let's face it when we get a

31:29

prescription from the pharmacy and it says take one pill every four hours well

31:35

cannabis is not like that you know um like I had a patient for instance today

31:40

who was starting on one-to-one oil you start you start at 0.25 you go up in

31:46

increments of 0.25 when you find that you're feeling pretty good that's where

31:52

you should stop if you need to add or take away um it's tritration and that's why

31:59

doctors have such a hard time with cannabis because of titration and no

32:05

exact science so that's why I think the biggest message we have to teach medical

32:12

professionals is is that is everybody's sweet spot is different it's not like taking regular

32:20

Pharmaceuticals so and like I said it took me a long time to find my perfect

32:26

sweet spot but now that I have my sweet spot you know some days I might need to tweak

32:33

it a little go up a little some days oh I'm feeling pretty good today I might not need as much right so that's just

32:40

how cannabis is and I think the sooner that my generation understands that and

32:47

doctors understand that we will all have a better understanding

32:52

um that cannabis is not an exact science

33:00

you have upset stomach have some Pepto-Bismol yeah like yeah you can't

33:06

say oh yeah go get the one-to-one oil it will help with arthritis you can't say that because even if you're sitting next

33:13

to somebody that has like even your twin even your twin and you have all the same issues you still wouldn't it would react

33:21

different but even with things I'll even have patients say to me I'll say to them call me for the first three nights call

33:28

me the next day and tell me how was your night did you sleep did it and then I'll say you know what by the third day I'm

33:34

like I think you're almost there I think you should stop there for now and see how that you know does for you because

33:42

that's the thing that I think like I said medical professionals just don't

33:48

get because it's not exact like taking a pharmaceutical well and but even the

33:54

Pharmaceuticals aren't exact right like I knew people who like it says on the bottle take take one to two if you're an

34:00

adult I knew people who were like if I take if I take more than half a Tylenol um I can't handle that I knew people who

34:06

had to take four Tylenols to deal with some so even the supposed one to two if

34:12

you're an adult anywhere from 18 to 65 um it's kind of like that even that

34:17

doesn't technically work for everybody either right it's similar to Pharmaceuticals in like when I was

34:24

prescribed my antidepressant in the beginning they say take 10 if they give you a 10 milligram pill and they say

34:30

take this for this amount of time and see how you are and then if that doesn't work we'll bump you up another 10 and 10

34:36

and 10 but like there is no education right now and this is where this is

34:42

where I get frustrated I feel like this is going to go into a what gets me going here a little mini one but but

34:48

um medical cannabis was here first yep recreational has been here very long

34:53

after like it was like a decade that medical cannabis was here they have no storefronts we have low dose Edibles a

35:01

lot of these medical patients are left clueless um some of them they're not as as

35:07

clueless but they're left having to go to the gray Market or the Legacy Market to get higher dose edibles but then they

35:13

put themselves at the risk of getting too high a dose edible or you know and

35:19

then having a bad experience I'm just like I hope that they check the regulations because I know they were supposed to be

35:25

doing something last year on it I'm waiting I'm like we're all kind of like biting a bit like hurry up guys we

35:31

understand that there's a pandemic going on but we know that you've still been working so what's going on you know what we we

35:36

have some like I'm currently working with a terrific medical company right now uh Mendo medical and they

35:44

um carry a lot of balanced products they carry all craft Brands they bring a lot

35:50

of brands that you know there's a lot so many people right now if all the LPS trying to get in the OCS and trying to

35:57

get their product up front and you know what there's lots of medical com you know like Mendo that are bringing some

36:04

of these Growers to the Forefront um I'm ordering stuff from Mendo that I

36:10

will never get in the recreational store um small batch let's see the thing that

36:16

frustrates me is where are their stores where there are their pharmacies well

36:22

there I think you're going to see that I think you are um I think so MiMi because I I think I'm

36:28

gonna tell you right now for it to come in the mail that's just

36:33

that's absurd I know I know uh we're still dealing with that and I think that

36:39

that will be rectified soon I think that there's a few models that are going to be coming available from a few different

36:45

uh companies um I don't see I don't um I don't mind

36:51

waiting in the mail for something that I can't get anywhere else um to be honest with you if I get my order in

36:59

um it only usually takes about 48 hours to get here it's not that bad

37:04

um but I mean I do think that we are going to see an awful lot of

37:10

recreational stores that aren't going to make it oh agreed

37:15

um I know of two I believe that closed yesterday in in the Hamilton area

37:21

um I think you're going to see uh possibly maybe um some of these stores maybe convert

37:28

into um more of a medical um Pharmacy type thing through some

37:36

companies that are working on that current model right now there's not just one there's like three

37:42

companies working on that right now so um I think that that will be the future

37:48

of medical cannabis um I think that they are um working to have special licensing so

37:55

that you can go in and speak to someone right there get access to medical

38:02

cannabis get your your it's not really even called a prescription anymore it's called an approval get your approval

38:10

um and be able to access and ask those questions that you can't ask in the retail space and that's where we're

38:17

having problems right now is that people don't understand that they can't go in

38:22

there and say oh my back hurts do you you know they can say it but the person behind the counter can only really speak

38:29

from experience they can speak um about terpenes they can speak but you

38:35

know what I mean but they can't go into making any medical claims any medical

38:41

um you know so this is where people my generation like we're mature cannabis users there's

38:49

a lot of us we've used cannabis for years but you know what we're using it for a reason we're not just you know

38:55

using it for no reason and I think that that is you know that that has to change

39:01

so you know these there's lots of companies that are trying to breathe

39:06

life right now back into medical and hallelujah hallelujah and you know what

39:12

that was my goal for 2022 was to help breed life back into medical and that's

39:20

what I'm going to do now uh medical clearly

39:25

um and multiple times throughout this first you know however long we've been together here uh like your eyes light up

39:32

uh you get you you know passion is clearly there um you've got other projects though that

39:38

that I love that you're involved in too um but take a moment now to talk to the

39:45

55 and up I'm thinking in particular the Newbie end the people who are who

39:52

haven't been using it forever and now are kind of free to kind of express it they've been using it but the people are like you know what I'm I am 55 enough my

39:59

body's starting to to break down arthritis all these other things that start to come in and but they're scared

40:06

um what do you what do you say what do you say to them Mimi those people need to speak to a medical professional

40:12

before starting to use cannabis they need to get in touch with someone

40:17

like myself so that we can get them the questions answered that they need answered what drug other drugs are you

40:25

taking are there going to be any interactions um you know what what if you're using

40:31

cannabis for any medical reason at all you should be speaking to a medical professional that's long and short of it

40:40

um you know I think that um that got that message got lost somewhere when recreational

40:48

you know I've had this we've had this talk the last time I was on here you know the the big thing was who was going

40:54

to get a store oh there's a lottery oh this that what they made what 40 million

41:00

dollars on that lottery that well that money could have gone towards an awful lot of medical programs an awful lot of

41:09

Education um that they could have rolled out a better medical program at the same time

41:16

um but no it was all about who was going to get a store and who was going to make

41:22

money and who wasn't and you know it just got all muddled

41:27

um and that's what I think annoys me the most because there's still people like myself that

41:34

are walking into these stores and they're not walking into a store to get high they're walking into a store

41:41

because they got an acre of paint and they're going to try to figure it out on their own to those people I say you need

41:47

to if your doctor is not can a friendly there are many that are canna-friendly

41:53

and you need to reach out and you need to speak to someone yeah yeah there are clinics popping up

42:00

left right and Center like you're saying to try and help these people not just access through um you know the licensing

42:08

to actually be able to purchase medically but to teach them about you

42:14

know these things and we need more of them to be honest and and I would like to see them that are not

42:20

solely backed by licensed producers and I say this only because then I feel like

42:27

when the money trickles from one person it's like the dairy industry of course I'm going to tell you to drink milk or

42:33

the meat industry will tell you to eat meat and you know the potato farmers are going to tell you the potatoes are the

42:39

greatest invention ever right so it it just I would like to see things that are

42:44

not just in a perfect world I would love to see a two-door system where I could

42:49

walk into a a retail store and they would say to me oh okay I think you you

42:55

know our our medical specialist is in three days a week I think you you know

43:00

you need to come back and speak to you know I would love to see it's awesome if every a two-door system right you had a

43:08

doctor or a clinic in it and could you imagine if they gave discounts to Medical people in recreational stores

43:14

yeah like exactly but a lot of stores though like in the Hamilton area a lot

43:19

of them send their patients to me um a lot of them um just because

43:26

some of them instead of going into the questions and and they're worried you

43:31

know am I gonna get my hand slapped and and you know and that's what bothers me the most because of the regulations you

43:37

go into the stores and I find that a lot of the staff instead of saying anything they say nothing because they're so

43:46

afraid because they're Bound by these regulations whereas you know my cards

43:51

are in pretty much every store in Hamilton um you know when they start asking those questions just hand them the card and

43:57

you don't have to say anything you know what I mean chances are they're still going to be buying from you but they

44:03

need to speak to a medical professional you know um they need to get those questions

44:09

answered and I'm going to tell you it'll be better for Revenue because once

44:14

people my age and older are more educated um and like Timmy you made a very good point about how it's legal now so

44:22

there's a lot of people that just oh they're okay with it now because it's legal they didn't want to break the law

44:28

right um but we're the people that have probably the most disposable income

44:35

um but we need to be educated um and um the more we you educate those people the more money they're going to

44:42

spend the more comfortable they're going to be and pain-free and sleep better and

44:47

all those wonderful things that come with good cannabis education that that all sounds so logical to Mimi but I I

44:54

actually uh specifically laid the rest logic a couple weeks ago I'm pretty sure it's dead but do you uh yeah you spoke

45:01

good words I just don't know if they'll ever be heard well you know what it's it's just

45:10

simply correctly um and I just don't think it's being done correctly right now

45:17

um you know uh people that I when I wake up in the morning and I look at my

45:22

emails people going through my website when I have people that are sending me emails just asking me what the inside of

45:29

a store looks like that tells me that they're frightened to even go in and

45:34

approach this right so this is where we have to we have to fix all that

45:40

you know and um and it's strictly because I think that the government was

45:46

so hell-bent on um you know rolling out recreational

45:52

um once they decided that we weren't going to have say government type stores that we were going to have privately

45:58

owned stores I thought that was good um but I still you know

46:05

now the stores deal with secret shoppers they come in and they try you know try

46:10

to stump them and get them to talk about medical so they can get their hands slapped and I mean come on you know what

46:17

I mean like there has to be there has to be medical help for this

46:23

yeah well it doesn't help either that um every so every store recreational store

46:30

that you go into is different because they're all owned by different people and depending on who the owner is uh you

46:38

get a different experience um some store owners you know this is to be true in any business some store

46:45

owners push customer service right some store owners push sales right so then

46:52

you have people that are going in like you're saying looking for some sort of answers and if they're if they're

46:58

pushing sales you've got the sales person showing them you know sixty dollar uh half quarters yeah and and

47:04

it's like 30 THC and this person that has no idea what they need or want is

47:10

look at Mimi's face it's like what what the hell they're gonna go home and smoke this even in a pipe and go I'm never

47:16

touching this [ __ ] again exactly exactly and you know and that's the thing like

47:22

yes they're they you can find some balanced products in the retail stores

47:28

um you can find but the problem is is they don't last long because people will

47:35

buy them up really quickly um whereas when you're with a medical provider you can get definitely there's

47:41

definitely more of those products in stock and yeah it's not the recreational because and that's another problem that

47:47

we're finding in the the system that we have now because some of the it's not

47:53

just some of the owners like so well some of them are non-consumers and are just trying to make money in the Cannabis space and don't understand the

48:01

market they don't know what people are looking for um and even if you are a cannabis

48:06

consumer you're also going into a location like say your little town of Sterling and they have to decide what

48:13

products should I order in because what do people in this area want and that

48:19

varies from area to area where we are um Everybody Wants grams

48:25

all day long why because you can go to the reserve just down the way and get

48:30

you know three ounces for 100 bucks right so if you you're not going to buy an ounce from the recreational store

48:37

you're just going to get your Gram right right so it's and that varies at every

48:43

store and if you don't know that then the store ends up buying the wrong products like buying a bunch of ketchup

48:49

chips and nobody likes ketchup chips what are you gonna do but at least if you go into an indigenous store

48:56

you will see a poster of your endocannabinoid system yeah you will see all those wonderful things that we need

49:03

to be talking about um you know this is why you know

49:09

I think through self-regulation um indigenous stores will keep the model

49:15

that they can talk about medical and I think that we could learn a lot about

49:21

that I've been spending an awful lot of time in indigenous stores recently so

49:27

um I can tell you that um there's someone there that will talk to you about your health if not they

49:33

will recommend someone that you can get a referral in an indigenous store to go speak to someone no problem

49:40

um so I think that um their ideas are a little different

49:46

and possibly a little better than ours um so you know I it's it's it's been

49:53

very eye-opening um working on this project so and I'm

49:58

telling you the the self-regulation of indigenous stores is going to be the next big thing and we'll see what

50:06

happens with that but I think that there's going to have to be some changes in in the Green Market to compete with

50:13

that because when someone can go and ask those questions they're going to go out of their way and go right well well also

50:22

um I remember back when legalization first happened and I mean uh the

50:28

indigenous Community had had Cannabis stores for a very long time before that

50:34

and then when legalization came the government said well you can't do that and the indigenous community community

50:40

said no we've been doing this for a very long time cannabis is a medicine just like other things that we have as

50:46

medicine and you're not going to take this from us and they thought and I I scanned well they were included in the

50:53

Cannabis act that's that's the whole the whole thing right they weren't included in the Cannabis act so you don't have

51:00

every right to be doing what they're doing and um I will say because they don't have

51:05

all of those rules and regulations that the Ontario government or any of like the olive Canadian government have

51:13

um they have the ability like you're saying to be able to talk to us to be able to provide us with quality product

51:19

at decent price um so like it's one of those things that yeah you're right the Green Market

51:25

definitely has to they have to adapt certain things in order to to set out

51:31

what they wanted to do in the first place well I mean it would be so easy if everyone was just walking in and just

51:37

looking for you know a half quarter to you know get high but that's just not

51:43

the situation you know that is not the situation and and to

51:49

it's hard to make people my age and older understand that well how come I can't get those questions answered right

51:55

you know I have that conversation with people my age and older almost every day

52:00

about that well why can't I find that out why can't I you know but you know I've also been sort of a go-to to help

52:09

those people with products that have worked for I'm not I'm not um found by any I can talk about pretty

52:16

much anything with my business I don't sell cannabis but I can certainly leave them in the direction of what in the

52:23

recreational store has worked for me um so it's I think that we're just in a

52:30

bit of a a lot of growing pains and bit of a quandary right now but we do

52:35

need a two-door system definitely that would be awesome I remember when the two we have two stores

52:41

in my little town uh My Little Village even well one one is now there and one has been in the works for I don't know

52:47

how long I thought they got kiboshed no they might have but I remember I remember the a couple people came to me

52:54

very early on and said why in the world would there even be a cannabis store in

53:01

Sterling it's all old people and and then I look back at them because I knew

53:06

you and I knew what you had said on the person and I'm just like that's the reason it's all old people

53:13

and that that misconception that uh you know the the 18 year old pothead is the

53:20

one that it's like no no that's why there's two now possibly in our town because it's all old people like that's

53:27

that it's so eye-opening it really is and let's face it you know like I said

53:33

the big one is anti-inflammatory medication and another big one is

53:38

menopause you know um people don't want to take anti-inflammatories people don't want to

53:45

take HRT hormone replacement therapy they want to and and honestly I'm

53:52

I I was one of those women too we had this discussion before I immediately thought that's what I needed you know

53:58

but that isn't what I needed um when you're going through that time in your life when your hormones are

54:05

depleting it's happening for a reason right yeah you know

54:10

um and I've just found that cannabis oil was my Saving Grace for that as well so

54:18

um but yeah it's definitely we are the number one demographic walking in those stores and and obviously spending you

54:26

know we definitely we're spending right but those people still need to speak to

54:32

a medical professional fair enough I want to take a little bit of time because I think your jewelry

54:38

pieces are amazing oh thank you but uh so what what is it that brings

54:46

that artistic well lending of cannabis and art well

54:52

the the thing of it is is I don't make anything um I'm not talented like MJ

54:58

um I um I curate I look for things that are unique I look for things that maybe

55:06

nobody else has um my background is in branding my background is in

55:12

um you know um and I remember um I did an interview recently and I

55:18

recently during the pandemic when we were all locked down and trying to you know keep on keeping on and and keeping

55:25

our businesses afloat and all of that stuff I went through my bit my original business plan and my original business

55:32

plan had something in it that stood out and it said bring back the roach clip

55:41

um and so that's when I started kind of looking into well the roach clip has

55:48

kind of evolved into this kind of piece of jewelry um and it's it's different now so

55:55

um I started ordering in a few pieces I have about 10 different suppliers of where I get it from either some comes

56:02

from overseas some comes from Colorado um some some comes from Canada

56:09

um but it was weird I started posting about it and my phone started blowing up where

56:17

did you get that it wasn't and that's the thing about the Cannabis

56:22

industry unfortunately is people will just want to know where you

56:27

got something as opposed to saying you know so within 24 hours

56:33

um I my phone was blowing up like crazy where did you get it

56:38

um not can I get it from you I knew I had to Brand it within 24 hours yeah

56:45

um so basically that's what I did I branded it Mimi's joint jewelry within

56:50

24 hours um and that's how it all started now I'm

56:56

in a lot of stores actually and I have um two other people that sell it also

57:02

for me um so I'm bringing it in to the country

57:07

and people are Distributing it for me now

57:12

um and we're making pretty big strides um my goal of course because I'm 58 is

57:19

to start slowing down a bit so that's why I have other people starting to distribute

57:25

things for me um so um that will basically you know uh that

57:31

and a few other things um I plan on building a rather large scale wholesale operation for my

57:40

retirement and my husband's retirement so that is the plan so that's what we're

57:46

working towards right now my husband still has another 10 years to work

57:52

um so I've been doing all of this and kind of the background trying to prepare us for retirement

57:59

um and to have something to say leave my daughter um my daughter will be going to the

58:04

stores this summer um and doing some stuff with Mimi's joint jewelry as well

58:11

um so she's of age so she can now um and she doesn't work in the summer she's a teacher so she's going to be

58:18

doing some work uh this summer hitting some of the stores and helping me out but I'm not getting any younger so I'm

58:24

trying to find ways to diversify what I built have other people sell it for me

58:31

um that kind of stuff so it's working out really well um and we'll see we'll see how how it

58:39

goes the art the art part of it is is really been interesting to me like you

58:44

know like I didn't know what a roach clip was and and now I've seen it all done up and like you said and like like

58:50

almost like jewelry pieces and I've seen some amazing glass work being done with bongs that I'm sure nobody even wants to

58:57

ever use just put it on your on your counter rolling trays we've seen some beautiful rolling trays I'm pretty sure

59:03

roped Clips used to just be um like an electrical piece yep that's how they were that's all that's something from

59:10

like an electrician's toolbox okay yeah yeah you know the little clamps yeah the little clamps it's literally and Mimi's

59:17

joint jewelry looks nothing no it's like those little ones the art is amazing and I think one of

59:24

those skeletons one of the very first things that MJ and I talked about um when we got together was this belief

59:32

that uh within the Cannabis industry put a cannabis leaf on it and you'll sell it

59:38

like it's like hey that's a dresser drawer oh it's a cannabis leaf let's buy that exactly

59:45

Market but the the art of it has gone like surpassed just people slapping a

59:51

Canon and I'm getting a lot of it um will be

59:57

branded um with my actual logo um very soon

1:00:03

um and also I have a new um fungi collection starting for the

1:00:09

spring so I have a lot of mushroom um sterling silver coming in that is

1:00:16

really beautiful um so um there's you know just a lot of a lot

1:00:22

of different stuff happening I've got a lot of different merchandise that I'm going to be bringing in

1:00:28

um but mainly a lot of other people will be selling it for me so hey if you can

1:00:34

make that happen that's that's the best well I mean cannabis is like a brand and it is a brand in and of itself and so

1:00:41

well chances are I think once my husband retires you know there is a chance we

1:00:47

might open a a store it won't be here because we're over saturated here but it

1:00:52

would be in an area that's needed um but we'll see we'll see how that goes

1:00:58

you know I mean I was going to you know rush and open a store like everyone else

1:01:04

did and then I kind of saw what was going on and I kind of predicted what's happening

1:01:10

right now so um and that's just you know from business experience uh I saw what was

1:01:17

going to happen I saw that people were gonna get into these leases and um

1:01:22

have some big issues and here we are here we are um we've got what 80 stores close to in

1:01:29

Hamilton they're on top of each other you know um so there's been an awful lot of

1:01:36

oversaturation I think there's been a lot of people that haven't done their homework I think they've rented spots

1:01:42

that um with no parking and know this and know that and then they're kind of like

1:01:47

wondering why they're not making any money um I think that people just

1:01:53

rushed into it you know these are things you have to think about um I can tell you right now

1:01:59

you gotta have parking for Stoners you know what I mean someone has to drive

1:02:04

around and look for a parking space you're gonna have problems and I can tell you those stores are having

1:02:10

problems [Music] um you know and then there's stores that have lots of parking and although and

1:02:16

you can just see the difference right so I think that there were just a lot of people I kind of predicted what was

1:02:23

going to happen and I'm glad that I didn't rented a brick and mortar because I almost did

1:02:29

but I'm glad I haven't thus far well I can tell you that in a world that

1:02:37

seems to be lacking uh in the education realm and like you're saying you know people just they just they weren't

1:02:43

thinking like you know you've got life experience work experience it's just it's so refreshing to me because I

1:02:49

needed I've said this multiple times to take me from where I was where I preached against cannabis to now being

1:02:56

on the advocacy side of it the old that the reason why I'm there is because of

1:03:01

the education that I've received the science that I've that I've seen the the

1:03:07

stories that I've heard the the personal seeing how it affects

1:03:13

um a regular human being um all of that and so you know Mimi it's always a great pleasure to chat with you

1:03:19

and to know that that um there are people like you out there and you are not alone as more and more

1:03:25

people are coming to the Forefront with that education and that experience and so we just thank you so much for for

1:03:32

sharing those stories and that education with us today oh anytime anytime are we

1:03:37

1:03:44

1:03:57
